Sports bar for Scottish soccer

My wife and I are heading to Austin for SXSW and on Sunday 16th March my Scottish football (soccer) team Aberdeen are playing in their first cup final for 14 years.

Does anyone know of any sports bars that would possibly show it. The problem is the match would kick off at 9.30am

Mister Tramps is the place to catch the game, but it is up north off of 183 so you would need a car or have to cab it which would run you $25 to/from there. They typically have all of the games the other places don't, but the question will be if they will open early enough for you on gameday. They typically open early SXSW I believe, but it might be best to contact the establishment as they typically don't open until 11am. It's a locally owned and operated place and the people are nice. For downtown, I would probably say B.D. Riley's could have it, as they have a good amount of tvs around the bar.

Black Sheep Lodge - http://www.blacksheeplodge.com/

And this article is a few years old, most places are still around (except Cuatro's which would have been perfect!) - theaustintimes.com/2010/…

Check at the Aussie Bar on Barton Springs. They have lots of volleyball tournaments in the spring and may be open early on the Sunday. Can't hurt to ask.

I agree that it might be difficult to find a restaurant or pub open that early on Sunday. I just checked a few places and they all open at 11am on Sundays.

Do you know for certain that the match will be on the TV in the US.

As a Brit who has been living in and watching football (soccer) on a weekly basis in Austin for nearly four years, if you are staying close to downtown, Fado is by far and away the best choice.

Their formal opening hours may not state that they open before 11am, but I have watched many games earlier than 9:30 am on a Sunday. They open up especially early for football. They haven't released March opening times yet, but if you look at February you can see that they are opening for a 7:30 am kick off tomorrow (Sunday Feb 9th) - http://www.fadoirishpub.com/austin/sports

Fado hosts the Man Utd supporters club and, luckily, they are playing at 7:30 am on Sunday 16th so they will be open for your 9:30 kick off. However, Spurs - Arsenal kicks off at 10am that day, so your problem may be them dedicating a screen to the Scottish cup final if more people are watching the other game. I would call ahead/pop in/check their website to make sure they play the final. I have seen Scottish football on TV in Fado before so I am sure it will be broadcast by someone.

If Fado doesn't work, Mr Tramps is also a solid suggestion if you have a car or are staying in North Austin. They host a Spurs supporters club, so I am sure they will be open by 9:30 for the Spurs - Arsenal game that starts at 10am. They may be able to dedicate a screen to your cup final. Again, I would check ahead.

Black Sheep does show football every now and then but I highly doubt they will open. If the above two options fail, try out 24 diner. I have used that as a backup given they are open 24 hours and they have been able to put a game on at all sorts of hours (albeit without sound and on a tiny TV in the corner).

Enjoy!
