Bachelor Party Ideas!

There are 10-11 guys coming to Austin May 16-18th. We are middle to late 20's to early 30's. We are looking for cool things to do. The groom is outdoorsy, so maybe something on the river? Also, what's a cool burlesque place or lounge bar with music? Since there are so many of us, we were thinking of looking at airbnb or homeaway instead of a hotel. Really wanting some fun and unique things to do. We aren't going to do a strip club though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are lots of bachelor party posts on the forum. Do a search and you'll see what has been suggested to others.

The weekend you are planning to visit is graduation weekend for the University of Texas, so you need to book a place to stay as soon as possible. Rates may be higher than you expected since this will be a very busy weekend in town. There are many options available on Airbnb and Homeaway/VRBO, but I know others have had some issues with finding someplace centrally located that will accommodate large groups. If you end up too far outside of the main downtown area, you will have to have designated drivers or spend a small fortune on cab fare. Downtown hotels are really the best option if you want to be in the middle of the action.

Lots of outdoor activities and mid-May is a great time to enjoy them. You can rent kayaks on Lady Bird Lake, which is the river running through downtown. Larger boats can be rented on Lake Austin, just west of downtown.

done the party barge many times...up to 70 people....

this is just one service http://www.aquaholic.org/barge.htm

if you're wanting something akin to a frat party then they really don't want to host those types

some type of water activity during the day...Lake Travis, tubing on the Guadalupe River...

during the day....zip line in Wimberly TX outside Austin-could coincide with a BBQ experience at The Salt Lick

Another option is to rent a pontoon boat - I think they will fit 11 people - at Lake Travis (reserve in advance). The party hangout area for boats is called Devil's Hollow. The lake is patrolled for boating under the influence.

Skip the gentlemen's clubs.

And please lose the upside down longhorn logo ;)

This one below is on the east side and has a lot of good review from people from bachelor parties. Sleeps 12.

Keep in mind if you decide to do the party boat thing on Lake Travis you will need designated drivers or to rent a driving service to get you back and forth, as Lake Travis is not close to downtown. Lake Austin would be an easier option if that is something you are interested in. If you are going to float a river, I would recommend going to Dons Fishcamp these days. Guadalupe has gotten pretty strict on rules and cops are keeping a close eye and giving tickets. Don's is in Martindale, which is a little closer and they bus you up to the point and drop you off and there are no rules governing container sizes, devices, or sound ordinances. If you go pretty early, you can get a good float in and be back in Austin in time for a good breather before you head out somewhere that evening. Also, if you want to do some shooting, there are a few Reds indoor ranges around town and an outdoor range in Leander called Eagle Peak, which is great for both handgun and rifle shooting and run by ex military. If you do any shooting anywhere, just make sure everyone in your group is sober and responsible, as none of the places will tolerate anyone in their establishments being drunk. By the way, have a blast while you are in Austin, and be sure to stop by West Campus and stock up on your Longhorn gear. :)
