First Timer to Austin June 14-17

I will be coming to Austin for the first time in June for a long weekend. I never depend on others to make plans on what to do during the day since they are mostly night owls who I travel with. I am staying at the AT&T Hotel looks really nice got a good deal on hotwire for it. I am an active 30 something female(I am not big on shopping). I know it is bike week that weekend as well. Can you all recommend places to go and see during the day and where are good places for a good breakfast and lunch and I must have Texas BBQ while I am there. the hotel has bike rentals so should be easy to get around on foot or bike.

Cheers,

A favorite is Chuy's. They started out in Austin and now have four locations in the city, plus are expanding to other cities.

Two more things. You asked where you could eat when you arrive late the first night? Your hotel is close to Kerby Lane a very popular diner on the "drag" which is Guadalupe. This is where fast food, retail, etc is in a 6 block area of the UT campus. Look at their Yelp reviews. Kerby Lane is very popular.

Go over to the Austin forum and find the "Food Trucks" post. Look at mine about the brand new food truck park behind the drag and look at their You Tube page. It is called Rancho Rio. It just opened a few weeks ago

Keeping you downtown I still vote for Cantina Laredo for your mexican food outing:

LOVE Wholefoods too! Where else can you pick out your jalapeño salmon patty, grab a bottle of wine from the fridge and sit at the bar while they cook it with awesome sides??!! I also enjoy South Congress Cafe with their great brunch, including spicy bloody Mary's or mimosas!!

Just found this awesome list of Austin BBQ with descriptions and photos. Look at Brown's food truck on So. Lamar. This is just over the river and just a few blocks out of the downtown area.

Chuy's for Tex Mex and it's also a great place to pick up a t shirt for a souvenir. The Barton Springs location is the original and still our favorite. (short cab ride from AT&T Center) That location is immediately south of Lady Bird Lake. You'll wait for a table, we all do. They'll have free chips and salsa for you while you wait. Margaritas aren't free but they're consistently good.

Welcome to Austin!

I forgot about Donn's Depot (downtown). It's a fun piano/music bar for the older folk !

Thanks I will print these out and make a smaller list to take with me. With us coming in on Friday is it still ok to take the bus from the airport or should we cab it?

Cheers

Bus should be fine, those bikers are riding in. Have fun. Be ready to see how the other half lives. Don't forget the new Austin Chronicle issue hits web tmw. Click on the E edition icon and look way in back to see what's happening this week music wise.
