Any downtown show suitable for young kids?

Hi we will be in Austin in early June with the kids, 1 and 4. We have other activities planned that should be good for the kids but would like to be able to go to at least one show in the 7-9PM timeframe if possible. Is there anything that is family friendly that mom and dad would like too?

Thanks.

www.austinfamily.com publishes a calendar of family friendly events.

The North Lamar Central Market has outdoor evening shows on their patio during the Summer.

Antones has all ages shows.

With kids that age, I'd definitely lean towards an outdoor concert event. If you're in town on a Thursday night, consider going to Unplugged at the Grove (at Shady Grove on Barton Springs). The musical quality is usually top-notch, though it can be crowded. http://www.theshadygrove.com/unplug.html

The Texas State History Museum does some concerts as well, which I hear are kid-friendly. I don't see anything yet for June, but you can find general info here: thestoryoftexas.com/special/texas_music_road…

One last general site to watch -- I don't see much yet for June, but keep watching it:

Have a great trip!

What kind of show are you talking about. The only show that I can think of that a one and four year old would like is one specifically designed for them.

If you are talking music performance, the dance hall types of venues are the most appropriate for kids. Antones and Continental Club have limited or no seating, don't serve food. Very uncomfortable for kiddos. A place like Threadgills would be much more child friendly.

The Congress Avenue bridge bats always put on a good show. They usually start streaming out around sunset, but you can call the Bat Hotline for specific times: Bat Hotline at 416-5700 ext. 3636

Go to www.austin360.com and plug in the dates you are interested in. When you get to page two, scroll way down to the bottom on the left and click: SHOW ONLY KID FRIENDLY EVENTS.

http://www.nowplayingaustin.com/ At this site click on KIDS & families

http://www.austinfamily.com/index.php This magazine publisher puts out an awesome calendar, but I couldn't figure out how to find June.

For an evening event you can't beat the Bob Bullock History Musuem a few blocks from the State Capitol. http://www.thestoryoftexas.com/ They have the IMAX theatre and the musuem if beautiful and good snackbar/quick sandwich spot on 2nd floor with great view.

Lastly, try and visit Whole Foods on corner of 6th and Lamar for a terrific dining experience. I call it the Disney of Food. Most tourists don't know that you can take your tray (after you pay the cashier) and walk up or ride the elevator up to the huge roof venue and eat at tables up there. Nice treat and lots of choices at kiosks for coffee, pastries, soups, salad bar, hot bar, pizza bar, chinese ordering, deli, gellato, and melt in your mouth BBQ brisket. The BBQ counter has pork, turkey, sausage, chicken, beef and all the trimmings of pot. salad, slaw, beans. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/
