dude ranches and texas hill country

Does anyone have any guidance on dude ranches in Austin. Looking for cattle drives and working ranches.

Also, I would like to hike or do some other outdoor activity in the Hill Country. Does anyone have some ideas on where and what.

Also are there any outfitters/tour operators that provide outdoor tours.

For dude ranches, you probably should drive over to Bandera

To the best of my knowledge, there are no dude ranches in or relatively near Austin. As Jay noted above, you need to drive out to the Bandera area, west of San Antonio, for dude ranches, and even then, you are not likely to see a real cattle drive. Most of the dude ranches out there are set up for tourists. A quick google search turned up several in that area - http://www.google.com/search?q=bandera+dude+ranches&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=utf8&oe=utf8

As for hiking in the Hill Country, Enchanted Rock, near Fredericksburg, is probably the most popular spot for day hikes. Here's the info - …state.tx.us/spdest/…
