Looking for Nice Austin Downtown Hotel

Visiting Austin in late May. Looking for a nice safe hotel within walking distance of Warehouse/6th St. Will have rental car but do not want to drive at night. We are 40ish and like late night active and fun bars. Do they have smoking regulations in the bars? Have checked out Hyatt and Crowne Plaza which seem ok which would be better or safer? Thanks for any info.

Four Seasons? Doesn't get much nicer than that downtown.

Both the Hyatt and Crowne Plaza should be fairly safe. (There are probably more homeless folks near the Crowne Plaza.) Other downtown area hotels to consider are the Driskell, the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental, the Hampton Inn, the Omni, the Radisson. Not sure where smoking is allowed anymore. Probably at most bars. Also Hotel San Jose on South Congress is in the area known as SOCO. Lots of restaurants, funky shops, etc. Of course the Four Seasons is the best of all if you want to go first class.

Recommend the Hyatt or Embassy Suites. E/S is on the corner of S. Congress and Barton Springs just south of the Congress Ave. bridge. Walking from there to 6th or the warehouse district should be nice via the Congress Bridge or the S. First street bridge.

Try the Elephant Room on Congress if you like live jazz. Very intimate, cool place.

Right now you can smoke in bars but the city is considering a smoking ban that will apply to bars.

We liked the Radisson downtown, and were able to walk to most places in less than half and hour. The smoking ban could go in effect by the 2nd week of May, but it may not pass. We were able to smoke in most bars we went to. 6th St. was a little young for us (late 30's), we found Congress to be more our taste.
