Private University Monopoly...

Why isn't there a full 4 year State run Acedemic College or University in Abilene?

Or a BMW /Mercedes/Volvo/Lexus dealers? Or a Waffle House? As long as there is Starbucks, does it matter that there is no public four year college, luxury and near luxury car dealers or a Waffle House?

I guess the better question is why would one have developed there anymore than Fort Worth or Dallas? The university system in Texas grew from ag and teaching colleges. Where private church related schools were already well established, public 4 year universities tended not to be initiated. Shoot, UTD (actually in Richardson) didn't start accepting freshmen and sophomores until the 90's! Isn't it more amazing that Abilene has managed to have as many schools as it has?
