Best place to stay for two families this summer?

Hi, we are planning a trip to Ashland this summer. 2 families consisting of a 3 adults total with two kids 12 and 13 and two kids 10 years old.

We need to find a welcoming B& B or hotel that is reasonable in the area. We are on a tight budget but would like to have a nice experience. We don't have to have a place walking distance to the theaters, it could be slightly further out if needed.

Would love any input! Thanks!!

Hi, can you state your dollar amount you want to pay? It's much easier when there is a number to work with, as "tight' budget can mean different things to different people ;-)

B&Bs tend to be pretty high priced and I don't think you'll find one under about $130/ night, and some are not really welcoming to children.

Medford has a lot more selection of lodging and is about 20 minutes away from Ashland - would that be an option you might consider?

Here are a couple of websites that might be helpful. The Shakespeare Festival site gives you a lot of choices to check out...with some help on rate ranges (summer rates will be the highest). Econolodge isn't fancy, but it is on the lower end of the rate range. It's right off the I-5's northern exit to Ashland. It only takes a few minutes to drive into the village and the theaters.

There is a La Quinta in Ashalnd that is reasonably priced. We stayed there years ago with our family. They have a nice indoor pool there and complimentary breakfast. :)

I always suggest people stay at the Homewood Suites in Medford, where they give you both breakfast and dinner with the room on weekdays. If you qualify for Govt Rate, they offer it for leisure, as well, if you qualify and that is a good deal, otherwise, use the Hilton MVP site to get a reasonable rate. If you want to be in Ashland, try the IHG Friends site for the Holiday Inn Express best rate. The B&Bs can be quite nice (we have especially enjoyed the Winchester Inn), and staying at the Ashland Springs Hotel (which includes breakfast) is close by the theaters and fun, but both are very expensive, with no real bargains available during the summer. In fact, I would have to say no N&B bargains AT ALL during the summer.

A quick check of La Quinta rates for some time in June showed a low per room of $117 a night for a Monday/Tuesday. I suspect the rates will be higher in July and on weekends.

How many years ago were you there, Syrah?
