Best seafood restaurants

Heading to Atlantic Beach next week. What's the best local restaurants to get fresh seafood? Especially interested in who has the best steamer pots.

In Atlantic Beach proper, I would recommend Amos Mosquitos. We also like Island Grill, but their fresh seafood choices are usually limited. Down the beach, in Salter Path, the Crab Shack has good fresh crabs and shrimp and may be closest to what you are looking for. We also always try to get to Parrott's across the bridge in Morehead

Just got back from a week in Atlantic Beach (Beaufort, Morehead City) and I heartily echo James' suggestion of Amos Mosquitos but just know you need to be there before it opens or wait a while, and that it's a little nicer inside and a touch more "formal" (but not formal per se) than most of the other restaurants in the area.

I also recommend Ruddy Duck in Morehead City (less than 10 minutes) and The Spouter Inn in Beaufort also about 10 minutes)...we thought these three were our favorites of the trip:

As to your specific question about steamer pots I can't help-I tried a steamer pot once at Joe's Crabshack and while it looked amazing and huge in the menu pics (in other words, the MARKETING worked!) I was sadly disappointed when I got it and after finishing it I had to order a crabcake sandwich and fries-a SECOND "dinner" in effect-to feel pleasantly full. After this I never even consider them. I DID notice them on some of the menus but right off I can't recall which places.

I'd second the Spouter Inn in Beaufort. In AB, I'd recommend the Crab's Claw.

I can't imagine describing Amos Mosquitos as "formal". It's very over the top kitschy, or at least it was when I went there about 4 or 5 years ago. All the servers had made up names like Sugar (our waitress), Honey, Bubba, Junior, etc. I felt kinda sorry for the kids that had to say, "Welcome to Amos Mosquitos. My name is Sugar and I'll be your server today." There's Spanish Moss draped all around and it's made to look like a swamp inside. They do have great local fresh seafood and it's a fun place. Unless things have drastically changed it's not very fancy/formal, though. It does have excellent food at about a $$ price ($20 entrees).

The Crab's Claw in AB circle is great and they have the steamer pots you are looking for.
