Opinions of Turgutreis?

Girlfriend and I are going on holiday next year.

We want to stay at the la Blanche in Turgutreis as we can't find anywhere to stay in Icmeler.

We were really keen on Icmeler. Is Turgutreis a good resort to stay at compared to Icmeler?

Only ever been to Turgutreis for days/evenings out when we have stayed in other resorts on the Bodrum Peninsula, its very nice and does have a more of a Turkish feel to it than Icmeler but the main tourist part is not as big as Icmeler. The La Blanche looks a lovely hotel at the far end of the prom so about a 10 mins stroll to the centre ( never been inside though )..

I have noticed you have asked a similar question about Gundagon, which is a pretty small traditional Turkish resort frequented by a lot of Turkish holidaymakers..

Hi Wendy

Thank you very much for your reply. Turgutreis looked more of a Turkish town than a commercial resort. I believe it still has a nice selection of bars and restaurants?

Turgutreis is a working town rather than a purpose made holiday resort so yes,,it still feels Turkish even when there are tourists there. It has a good tourism infrastructure without feeling over run by it.

Bus links to other places are decent too so you can get out and about during your holiday.

A lot of money has been spent on improving and developing the sea front and it is now lovely and a perfect place to watch the towns famous sunsets.

We like Turgutreis and have returned there to holiday twice, as Sarikanarya says it is a good centre for day trips, Gumbut, Bitez, Bodrum, and Gumusluk, Yalikavak, Gundogan and Golturkbuku to the north. There's a lovely promenade with views across to the islands, especially at sunset, La Blanche is situated along here, the promenade goes over the top, some quite nice sandy stretches of beach too. Turgutreis is a working Turkish town with a weekly market and some good restaurants plus all the usual tourist things, shops, bars and cafes all set in a bazaar like centre, plenty of opportunities for day trips to Kos etc.by boat.

Impossible to compare Turgutreis and Icmeler really, quite different. We love Turgutreis because it is small and friendly the hotel and bar staff seem to remember you year after year.On the other hand Icmeler is a bit more "touristy"more bars and restaurants, very nice beach. We enjoyed our stay at the Kapmar Hotel, very central and also last year the Oren apts(not Oren Hill) family run, good BBQ nights, and great pool...Nothing is to much trouble for the staff....
