Alcohol prices

Me and a couple of the lasses are going to Gumbet in late June for 2 weeks self catering. its our first time going to Turkey so haven't really got an idea on how much the drink is going to be? We are big drinkers and will more than likely be drinking every night... How much spending money will I need for a meal every night then drinking afterwards?

Help would be appreciated :)

I would have though £800 will be enough too. Once you're there you will see that there are lots of alternatives for eating from simple kebab cafes where the locals eat (perfectly good food), cafes that do the pizza and chips thing, restaurants that advertise a meal 'package' which includes wine, restaurants on the beach etc etc. Prices are advertised outside each one, you can shop around and choose according to your budget. There will be staff trying to encourage you into the shops, bars and restaurants but they are no longer allowed to 'hassle' tourists like they used to. The authorities can close them down for a period if they break the rules.

My advice about bars, if you're on a budget, is to 'pay as you go' rather than run up a bar tab, especially if there are a few of you and you may lose track of 'who's had what'. Alcohol is not particularly cheap in Turkey due to high taxation. Bars slightly away from the busy 'strip' are generally a bit cheaper, bars with entertainment a little more expensive, bar street a little more expensive again. Local drinks are cheaper than imports.

The last comment about Turkish guys may come across as slightly intimidating. Please don't worry. Whilst they can be very flirty and charming to female tourists, if you don't want the attention, politely but firmly tell them that. That said, they can be very funny and good company, though a lot of them can't afford to pay the resort prices and so aren't allowed in the bars unless tourists take them in. The bar staff will pay you a lot of attention to get you into the bar, get you dancing.....and drinking of course! Use the same discretion you would at home but most of all, have fun. You'll have a great time.
