Enjoyed Manila's shopping

We enjoyed Manila shopping , so much so that we are thinking of returning early next year.

However, we find the traffic condition in Manila quite bad, so when we go back we would like to stay near an LRT station as the Ayala Centre in Makati will be one of our must-visit shopping malls. We note that those hotels near the Ayala Centre are good but expensive hotels, although it would be nice to be able to walk to the malls.

We actually stayed in Ortigas Centre near the Megamall, where there seems to be an LRT station around the area but we don't know where it is.

You see, we figure that if we stay around the Ortigas Centre, we can visit the Megamall by taxi or walk, Green Hills by "Afax " and Ayala Centre by LRT.

By the way, what is "Afax" ? We got on to one of these from outside Greenhills to get to Megamall for 15p per person one night. We were directed to it by one of the security boys outside Greenhills

after failing to hail down any taxi for more than 1/2 hour.

I'm glad you enjoyed shopping in Manila. I think the LRT station in Ortigas is the one connecting to the Shangrila Mall. There might be another one on Robinson's Galleria but I'm not so sure.

The taxi is actually an "FX" taxi and not "Afax". It's called so because the vehicle is a Toyota FX.

I know there are a lot of hotels near Ayala Center but maybe the other forumers are more in the know on this.

Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself in Manila. Please note that what you are referring to is the MRT (Metro Rail Transit) station and not LRT (which is on a different line in a different area).

Anyway, there are 2 MRT stations near the Megamall area. One is connected to the Shangri La Mall (Shaw Blvd station) and the other is in front of the Asian Development Bank complex (Ortigas station) -- Megamall is in between the 2 stations.

That is really great to hear!!! Bangkok/HK/SIN are renowned shopping capitals but Manila shopping is a whole new different experience!!! If your plans are pushing through early next year, Ayala Center will have the usual Midnight Madness Sale 70% off sometime in the middle of February so be sure to catch the dates. And you may also check some budget hotels near the Central Business District so you can save up more during your stay... AIM or Tiara Oriental are my recommendations.

If you will stay in Malayan Plaza, Megamall is only a few minutes away by walking thru an unpaved parking lot beside The Podium.

To get to the MRT Shaw station, walk from the basement or 2nd level of Megamall building A to Building B, exit at the SM supermart and walk towards (SM parking lot) EDSA Shangrila Plaza. The train going to Makati is on the other side.

If you want to go to Robinsons Galleria, walk along ADB ave (opposite direction to The Podium). From Robinsons Galleria, cross Ortigas Avenue and take a bus bound for Quiapo, this bus will stop in Greenhills. Bus bound for Antipolo/Cainta will get you back to Robinsons.

Happy Shopping!

Check Craigslist Philippines, saw a studio unit in Ortigas Center available for short stay.
