20 reasons to visit Philippines: theage.com.au

This recent article is a fairly good summary of Manila and environs' attractions:

theage.com.au/travel/twenty-reasons-to-visit…

Perhaps the irrepressible tommomelbourne might be kind enough to place this article undet the Manila 'top questions' page that TA has.

www.asiatravel.com has some excellent choices in Manila (Malate or Ermita, near Manila Bay), Makati and Ortigas (business districts) or Quezon City for US$100 or under including (in some cases) buffet breakfast for two.

Look at asiatravel's 'Crazy Rates': currently its 'Manila 5-star' is The Manila Hotel, 100 years old this year while its Makati 5-star is I believe New World Hotel opposite Greenbelt. Both are good. We would appreciate a forum contribution confirming that these hotels are still the applicable 'Crazy rate' hotels if anyone books them.

Have a night in Manila at the start and end (shopping, relaxing plus a buffet dinner at an hotel or other place such as Vikings at san Miguel by the Bay, back of the Mall of Asia shopping complex) and five nights on an island such as Coron (fly to Busuanga), Boracay (fly to Caticlan or Kalibo, the latter being 60 kilometres from Boracay) or elsewhere.

Here is a good summary of the current mystery hotel www.asiatravel.com 'Crazy Rates' that at present are only offered in Manila, Makati, Ortigas, Quezon City and Cebu City.

The Manila Hotel (top left), Marriott Cebu City and Somerset Millenium Makati (top right) plus Hotel H2O (Manila) (middle top) and Eastwood Richmonde Hotel (Quezon City) are among the offerings:

The Manila Hotel rate is outstanding as it includes an excellent buffet breakfast for two at the renovated Cafe Ilang-Ilang. Ask for a room facing Manila Bay on a non smoking floor such as the 16th if you dislike the 'evil weed' as much as I do.

I certainly love the adobo dish and Manila Hotel in the Philippines. Definitely love the nightlife and mall hopping in there too! I would love to go back someday.

There's a lot more to do, including enjoying a day trip to Tagaytay, dining at Greenbelt or Glorietta in Makati at night, visiting historic churches such as San Joaquin, Intramuros and its attached museum by day (but not during the 1200 - 1300 hours siesta), enjoying a fresh seafood meal along Manila Bay near Mall of Asia, taking a day trip to historic Corrigedor Island and so on.

The Manila Hotel using www.asiatravel.com is great value and iconic:
