Transport from Kyoto to Kansai

I'm a little confused about the options from getting from Kyoto to Kansai.

We will be leaving Kyoto in the pm, and staying o/n at the Hotel Nikko at Kansai in order to catch an international flight to Hong Kong at 10am the next morning.

What I'm not clear about is:

-there appear to be two rail companies operating into Kansai Station. Which one should we be looking at?

-if the right railway company is JR, would it be useful to purchase a JR pass for use on this leg, as well as the Tokyo-Kyoto leg we'll be doing about 10 days earlier

-does the trip from Kyoto to Kansai require a change of trains?

Many thanks

If you buy 14 day JR Pass, you need to do A LOT OF travel including Nikko, Hiroshima and more to make it pay off.

It is easy to take the Haruka limited express from Kyoto Station that will take you straight through to Kansai

Airport - last stop.
