Effect of the hot summer on fall foliage

What will be the effect of the hot summer on the timing of the fall foliage? I'm coming to Japan (flying into Narita) in the first two weeks of November; I want to spend one week in Tokyo seeing friends and one week traveling with a JR pass. Originally I was going to spend the first week in Tokyo and then go traveling to maximise my chances of seeing the foliage a bit later in the month. (I've done this trip before many years ago). With such a hot summer though will it make much difference - or would people still advise leaving the traveling part of my trip (to Kyoto etc.) to the second week?

Many thanks.

Summer is always hot in Japan. Well, at least for me.

Foliage depends on the year but we wouldn't know how things will be this year. Kyoto has different areas with slightly different foliage viewing peaks. Mid to last week of November up to the first week of December would be better for autumn leaves in Kyoto City, usually. If you miss the peak at one place, you'd hit a peak at another place. If it seems too early in central areas of Kyoto City, go to Takao or Kurama or Ohara, or perhaps to Yamashina’s Bishamondo in the hills.

Ok, thanks. It's just that a friend of mine in Tokyo emailed me this morning and said they'd had the hottest summer in a hundred years - so I was wondering if that might change things.

Foliage normally depend on temperatures in autumn. If temperature is low, coloring will be early, if it's high, late. Hottest summer in a hundred years in Tokyo- well, it felt like it (still hot today) but last year it felt the same.

That's really helpful & kind, thank you.

We were in Kyoto for hanami last year and it was really packed.

I'm hoping there won't be the same crowds in mid-November?
