Ryokan in Kyoto

Can you suggest any other ryokans in the Higashiyama area? I am having trouble booking one for 4-5 days. At first I was looking around the Kyoto station area, but it appears that Higashiyama is a better place to stay. I am really looking for a traditional ryokan with nice surroundings (garden, etc.) and private bath, but not a luxury/super-expensive one. I am open to suggestions in other areas of Kyoto as well, but would like reasonably easy access to the JR station so I can make day trips.

Haven't been (yet), but this looks like a great option (we had similar requirements)

Visit:

Kinoe(ryokan) listed in the above site is in the Higashiyama area. But transportation-wise, it may perhaps be better to stay around Gion / Shijo or in the vicinity of JR Kyoto Station.

Enjoy.

My boyfriend and I stayed in kyoto in December. THrough Japaneseguesthouses.com we found Ryokan Shimizu. It was terrific. Just 5 blocks from the JR train station. Private bathroom and shower in the room, but a family shared bath by reservation. After a day of biking (they lend out their bicycles for the day) we came home tired and cold. A soak in the family bath was a perfect end to a fabulous day. The breakfasts was good and they had internet in the lobby. Staff was very helpful. I would absolutely stay there again. I believe we paid $140 (total) a night. However that was midweek in December. Not sure if prices fluctuate. Please look into it. We were delighted!
