Help! – No Accommodation in Kyoto for November

Hello

Me and my partner plan to spend our honeymoon in Kyoto during November from the 22nd to the 28th.

I’ll cut to the chase, looking around at hotels and it seems that almost every single one in the Kyoto/Osaka area are very heavily booked out for the national holiday on November 24th/25th /26th with no rooms at all available in any hotel for these areas.

My questions are, what would be my alternatives to try finding accommodation for this period, or what other areas would be good to stay in? (that would still be close enough to visit Kyoto from)

Also, what other websites/methods are good for booking hotel rooms in this area?

Some advice would be much appreciated, as I am at a loss on what to do at this point.

Try jalan.net - there seemed to be availability in the Osaka area for those dates...good luck!

Yes, try Jalan or Rakuten hotel booking sites that are the largest in Japan.

If you can't find a hotel in Osaka, you might consider staying in Nara, too.

Finding a place around Otsu or Kameoka could be the last option.

Nov 24-26, 2012!?

Miyako hotels already fully booked in Kyoto. Some are still available in Osaka and Nara except Nov 24, Saturday.

miyakohotels.ne.jp/newmiyako/…

In business area in Osaka may have some availability on 24th. Checked Royal, Nikko(JAL), ANA Crowne Plaza, Hilton and other good hotels; mostly sold out. According to Rakuten Travel, I can see the availability Ramada Osaka on 24th for two: However, availability is limited in one bed room with 140cm-width(55 in) bed size! Check this out for your patience.

Strangely in hotel page it is fully booked: I used to stay Ramada Osaka several times when Tokyu owned the hotel. The hotel may not be good for honeymooners, but reasonable rates are available.

I also checked major hotels in Kobe; fully booked!

How about Nagoya? Castle hotel Nagoya is available for two one nite on 24th.

starwoodhotels.com/westin/…

Good location in Nagoya beside Nagoya Castle although the hotel is a little bit old. Nagoya to Kyoto is about one hour via Shinkansen train. Other Nagoya hotel: Marriott Nagoya is sold out. A number of rooms are available in Hilton Nagoya up to deluxe suite!

Nothing unusual if you can't find accommodation in a relatively small city. It is happening a lot lately. Use all the search tools you can: kayak, jalan(Eng + Japanese sites), rakuten(Eng+Japanese), NTA(Eng+Japanese this one requires pre-payment)

Only 1 hotel found in Kyoto city using all the Japanese language sites(via navitime.co.jp):

http://www.kibune-hiroya.com/menu/index.html 33000 2 meals

Quite a handful others in the suburb but still within Kyoto prefecture.

Using Kayak, there are 3 available. - all in suburbs 253 -911USD per room

Do you have JR Pass for the days intended for Kyoto? If so, staying around Nagoya, Maibara, Shin-Kobe might be considered.

>>I had imagined Kyoto is a pretty huge city<<

There are equally huge numbers of tourists coming to see the autumn leaves. Osaka and Nara are the easiest candidates.

Schedules for Nov 23-25

National holiday long weekend

Kyoto: autumn foliage - booked solid

Osaka: Marathon run - booked solid

As mentioned there are rooms available within Kyoto prefecture in the suburbs at various levels of rates. Government tourist authority can call individual hotels on your behalf (at no extra cost to you) to find rooms.
