All you can eat buffets in Kyoto

Hi there!

Are there any all you can eat buffets in Kyoto? I am not very familiar with Japanese cuisine so I thought eating at an "all you can eat" restaurant would be a good idea to try various dishes and deciding what I like best!

Japanese "cuisine" and especially Kyoto's plush and intricately flavored food generally does not go along well with buffet. That said, Kyoto has its own deli genre by the name "(o) banzai" using local vegetables and prepared in Kyoto style, which is considered healthy. There are some buffet style "obanzai" restaurants in Kyoto. Here are some (enlarge the maps, print out if necessary, use google street view before you go, ask people around):

1.Kakiyasu Sanjaku Sansunbashi (JR Kyoto Isetan 10F)

2.Banzai Hasegawa (Karasuma, Sanjo Masuyamachi):

3.Matsutomiya Kotobuki Ichie (Karasuma, Sanjo Yanagibadori)

4.Naturalist Restaurant Obanzai (Nijojo):

5.Kyoto Dining Yushoku Kaname (Kawaramachi):

6.Naturalist Viking Harvest Kyoto Porta (Kyoto Station Porta Building B1F)

If you are at a loss of what to eat, perhaps going to a normal buffet might be a good idea. They all have Japanese and Western food.

1.Sara The Buffet Style (Shijo Karasuma):

2.Viking Restaurant Le Plaisir (New Miyako Hotel Kyoto):

3.Cafe Restaurant Le Temps (JR Granvia Hotel 2F *Buffet on some days' lunch and dinner time")

If a tourist likes to sample many different Japanese foods (& western & vegetarian), visit Kyoto Handicraft Center near Gion.

Soft drinks, tea, coffee, juice included. If you go, go before tour buses arrive to avoid long lines and food trays that they can not keep replenishing fast enough, even though they try: Menu in PDF, all for 1,575yen.

You can also do souvenir shopping & hands on activities there.
