Getting to Miyajima

1. What is the best way to get from Hiroshina shinkansen station to Peace Park or to Shukkeien Gardens?

2. I understand that I can get to Miyajima ferry station either on tram #2 or on a train from Hiroshima station. Assuming I am at a Peace Park, which way will be faster and more convenient?

3. Is Miyajima Tori gate visible from Hiroshima side? Where is the best photo spot for it?

4. I am thinking about staying at a Miyajima Corral Hotel at mainland side next to the ferry. Can anyone comment on this? Is there any advantage to staying on Miyajima side?

5. Are there places to eat in Miyajima in the evening without staying in a ryokan there?

This is an excellent site for tourist information about Hiroshima and Miyajima:

www.hcvb.city.hiroshima.jp/e_navigator/

They also have english-speaking information people at the Peace Park Museum and I believe at other places too.

The only questions I can answer reasonably well are:

2. you can also take a tourist ferry directly from the Peace Park; it is not as frequent as the other ferry (JR) but is very convenient if you time it correctly.

4. the advantage to staying on the Miyajima side is that the shrine is lovely and quiet when the tourists leave. The disadvantage is that there are not many accommodations and they can be pricey. Ryokan Momiji is not bad. I didn't stay there, but I have heard good things.http://www.gambo-ad.com/miyajima/english/hotel/momiji-so/info.htm

5. Restaurants in Miyajima cater to the day tourists. There is very little choice after five p.m. Search in this forum for this question; I think somebody came up with one or two options a few months ago, but in my opinion you shouldn't plan on finding a restaurant in the evening.

Thank you.

Since ferry goes until midnight and takes only 10 minutes, it looks like staying on Hiroshima side next to a ferry station should not prevent evening strolls on the island.

It’s true that staying in Miyajimaguchi could allow you to have more time to stroll in Miyajima during the evening. But do note that neither of the 2 ferries run till midnight. The last JR ferry back to Miyajimaguchi is at 22.14.
