Hiroshima Mijagima Day Trip

We will be based in Osaka for a week and are planning to do a day trip to Hiroshima and Miyagima. Can anyone suggest where we should spend the majority of the day? I presume you can visit both places in any order. Any suggestions for a good place for lunch?

IMO, it depends on when high tide is since I think seeing the shrine on Miyagima at high tide is best.

When we were there we went for lunch at a complex of many many Okonomiyaki stalls - several floors of small individual places - that were all in one building near the undercover shoping complex in central Hiroshima - within walking distance of Peace Park. I am sure others can give you more accurate directions.

I am sorry that I can not provide more accurate directions as we had a goodwill guide that day that took us there.

Make sure you get the fried oysters which are a specialty in Hiroshima or some raw ones if you are there at the right time.

We will be there in mid November. Does anyone know how we can find out the tides (so we get a better view of the Torii shrine)?

According to a fishing web site, "high tide" days in November (for Itsukushima Shrine, the world-famous 'floating' red torii gate) are:

8th, 636am / 512pm

9th, 637am / 511pm

10th 638am / 511pm

11th 638am / 510pm

23rd 650am / 503pm

24th 651am / 503pm

25th 652am / 502pm

26th 653am / 502pm

Check the tide schedules online (http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/tideshow.cgi?site=Itukusima%2C+Hirosima%2C+Japan). Miyajima during high tide is much more attractive than low tide. We spent an equal amount of time at both places with lunch at a random restaurant on Miyajima. You can take the street car that goes to Peace Park all the way to the ferry for Miyajima. It was a long ride, but for us took less time than taking the street car back to the JR station, waiting for a train plus the train time.

If you want to try local cuisine, I recommend Suihin(酔心) .

My favorites are sardines tempura and grilled oyster with garlic butter.

Andersen is very huge and famous bakery in Hiroshima.
