Guilin/Yangshuo April 6,7,8,9

We will fly into Guilin on Sat, April 6th. As of now, we have reservations at the Sheraton for that night, leaving for Yangshou with our guide on Saturday morning. So our itinerary would look like this:

Sat 4/6: arrive Guilin 10:30 am (from a week in Hong Kong-so no jet lag issues)

Ck into Sheraton, explore Guilin, night market, etc.

Sun. 4/7 Our guide to pick us up at hotel, possible Li river cruise to

Yangshuo, but we are most interest in the last half of the cruise.

Mon, Tues 4/8-4/9 Various activities & tours in the area, one day

with a guide, one on our own.

Wed, 4/10: early morning transport from Yangshuo to Guilin for flight to Xi'an

However--We would also like to visit some minority villages, and possibly the rice terraces. Are the rice terraces pretty this time of year? Will they be green and/or filled with water yet?

What villages are interesting? We especially like visiting local markets, etc.

How can we best use our time in Guilin/Yangshuo?

I am open to switching around our hotel nights if we can schedule our time better.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Planting of rice begins in May. You are too early, not green at all for sure. The fields will be bare.

You are there during a Chinese holiday. It will be super busy.

We will be there at the same time - we are going right to Yangshuo on Saturday afternoon, stay a bit out of town and go to the cooking school on Sunday to avoid the crowds. Hopefully it will be a little quieter by Monday. We are going to the rice paddies and to visit some minority villages in the middle of the next week.

Thanks Jean-Pierre and Jean!

I had forgotten about the April holiday--but it is what it is now. We'll just have to deal with it.

Jean--a cooking class is one thing we were interested in. Do you mind letting me know what you found in Yangshuo?

The april holiday this year is 4-6th,Apr. So it would be no big problem for your actual tour starting from 7th,Apr.

Hiking, biking, rafting are good ways to explore Yangshuo countryside and easily fill your days there. But Apr is rainy time and easily affects the outdoor activities.

The Yangshuo Cooking School is well rated in trip advisor and has a web site - you can google it. I assume that you can contact them or have your hotel reserve a spot. The meals vary according to the day that you plan to attend and they have 2 locations. It looks like a lot of fun.

Most of the day tours to the rice terrances go to the village of Ping'an, which is interesting in itself even if the rice fields are bare, as it's built up on the mountain side within the rice fields. On most tours you will eat lunch there. These tours also usually stop at a Yao minority village where the Yao long haired women put on a show (may be at extra cost). You can do a Google searches on Ping'an and Yao long haired women for more info.
