?s about Quilin & Yangshuo

For those who's been to Guilin & Yangshuo,

My family (3 adults, 1 elderly and 1 9 mo. baby) is thinking about going to Guilin, Yangshuo, & Long Sheng during the last 2 weeks of December 2008.

We've never been to China and traveling w/ elderly & a baby in winter seems a bit challenging.

What are your recommendation for where to visit (we don't like tour groups and would like to go on our own to more unique places)?

Is December a good month to visit (ie, foggy or sunny)?

Will we see the beautiful rice terrace at that time?

What are some of the must see places that are family/baby friendly?

Where would be a good place to lodge when traveling w/ a baby?

Thank you,

Joyce :)

Not the best season to visit.

It can get a bit cold. Make sure your hotel has heating.

You can see the rice terraces but it will not be "beautiful". Best time is during growing season before harvest.

Remember that when visiting Yangshuo-Guilin you are going there for the scenery. You want to bike around and go on bamboo rafts to really enjoy.

First time in China? How long? How about Beijing and Shanghai?

I definitely wouldn't visit Guilin/Yangshuo in December it's a very outdoor place and would be too cold at that time of year.

I was there last Christmas and it was Freezing - not pleasant for bamboo rafting but OK for cycling. Too cold for the Impressions show also. Not really at all suitable for the old or very young as they are not able to do all the activities to keep warm

It can be a little cold in December although it can still be sunny. It's not a good time to see the rice terraces because its a bit barren that time of year.

Most of the sights are family friendly. In Guilin Elephant trunk Hill is nice. Yangshuo definitely has the best scenery and you don't have to travel far to get out in the countryside. The Yulong River is particularly beautiful. The night show is also worth seeing.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more advice.
