Cruise terminal to Peterhof

We will be arriving in St.Petersburg on Crown Princess Sept 1 and have arranged for tourist visas. I am wondering if there is a way we can go directly from the cruise terminal to Peterhof (taxi etc)in the morning. After our visit there we would take the hydrofoil back to St.Petersburg in the afternoon.

Once you leave the port you will find a number of taxis that can bring you to Peterhof. Sometimes taxis are available inside the port area near your ship.

I would not be that optimistic - it may be a special experience, probably - time-wasting as ordinary taxi can not enter the port territory (a special pass is needed), so I have seen people looking for a spare car by a ship for quite a time; on the way back - even worse as no guarantee that a car with a pass will be waiting by the entrance while a city taxi would not take you into the port (with 2.5 miles from the gate to your pier)...

It will be a multistep process. There are special taxis that run from the docks to the gate but no further after clearning gate security you can meet a taxi on city streets if you prearrange it. Another option would be to walk straight down the road after the gate to a bus stop and wait for bus 22. It will be going towards the city center but passes several metro stations where taxis can be found.

Getting from your ship to the gate can also be done by using the dockworkers shuttle bus that circulates the port areas at 30 minute or so invervals. That is free.

A taxi to Peterhof is not going to be cheap, there are buses and min-vans going there that are but you still have to get to their stopping points.

If you are really familar with the city and can read some Russian you can do it but none are going to be fast because of all the steps and backtracking. The port Crown docks at is not convenient at all for those visitors on their own which is why only a few people in the entire 2000 passenger list bother with visas. And most of them did not look at a detailed map before deciding to do that. Ships docking at the English Embankment are walking distance from many attractions so it makes sense there.

On your return from the city center you will be dropped off at the gate and can wait or the shuttle or hope a friendly tour company van driver would allow you to hitchhike with their group back to your ship.

The Main Passenger Terminal is out on Vasilievsky Island to it is north west of the city center, 5-6 miles from the city center. It was the main terminal for ferries but is seldom used nowadays.

A new deeper channel and terminal is being built now and it will be the main cruise line dock area in a couple years. Originally it was to be a passenger terminal alone but with ships coming only 4 months the finances did not add up so the plan was modified to have it primarly a cargo port. That means the new one will just as restricted in access as the large current cargo port is.
