Novgorod to St. P by train in Sep 2010 - none running?!

Hi - your help would be appreciated here. I've tried to find schedules for trains running from Novgorod to St. Petersburg in Sept 2010 (specifically Sun 19 Sep) and have had no luck with the message coming back saying "no scheduled trains in September" - does this mean there are no trains running or the timetables haven't yet been published? Do trains run on a Sunday? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

The answer is yes, there are daily trains and this is a great destination.

BUT I am having no luck with websites re trains.

Buses are regular, hourly if not closer. Leave by the train station (opposite).

I will dig further.

There are two commuter trains which go daily:

St.Pete departure at 07.53am Novgorod arrival at 01.00pm

St.Pete departure at 08.12am Novgorod arrival at 11.48

The schedule can change due to the railway construction works. Tickets are to be purchased at the train station prior to departure.

Commuter train to St.Pete departs from Novgorod at 5.10pm daily.

If you plan to travel in September please double-check the information later as there could be some changes in the schedule.

From Siberia!

Tickets on Russian commuter trains (i.e. electrichki) are only available for sale10-14 days before the train. Don't remember is it is 10 or 14 days.

Sale of tickets on regular 'long-distance' trains also have limitations, but I do not remember how many days. I think something around 45 days.

With cutbacks in the number of trains and train cars, we have experienced more and more problems getting tickets at the last minute (i.e. 1-2 days before departure). Usually they open up additional tickets for sale 24 hours before departure. This is especially true for long-distance trains. They are reluctant to sell you a ticket from Tyumen to Ekaterinburg (325 km) on a train from Khabarovsk to Moscow (several thsd km) until they know that they will not sell the remaining tickets from Khabarovsk to Moscow.

In short, there is a logic in all they do here... sometimes it greatly differs from 'western logic'.
