Language problems?

Since I am "language-challenged," please tell me whether artists' names are written in English as well as in Russian in the major rooms in the Tretyakov Russian Art Gallery, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Art, the Hermitage, and the Russian Museum in St. P. I am planning a trip to Moscow, Novgorod, and St. Petersburg in August-September and wonder how much Russian I must try to learn before then. Thank you for your help.

Hi, ChickasawRTx,

Usually, there is Latin transliteration of names in Cyrillic in major exhibition halls. It is never too bad, however, to learn Russian alphabet, since street signs are mostly in Russian and the signs in the metro are also in Russian. Knowing Russian alphabet you will feel much better by being able to read the signs.

Enjoy your trip
