How to travel from Cluj or Timisoara to Kosice Slovakia

We are going to Cluj and Timisoara Romania this summer. We would like to go from one of these cities to Kosice Slovakia. What is the best way and route? Are there train routes between these cities in romania and Kosice Slovakia? What would be the time factor and cost? Thank you,

There aren't any direct trains or buses between these cities and Kosice

The simplest way is to go via Budapest: take one of the several daily trains or buses from Cluj or Timisoara to Budapest then a train (or a bus) from Budapest to Kosice.

Using only trains this will take about 12-13 hours in total and cost around €50 from Timisoara or €55 from Cluj.

It's also possible to head to Kosice on a more direct route (Cluj-Debrecen-Miskolc-Kosice, respectively Timisoara-Szolnok-Miskolc-Kosice) but you'll have to change trains several times. Travel time is around 9 hours, prices are about the same as above.

You can search train timetables on http://www.bahn.com/i/view/GBR/en/index.shtml for

Train travel is safe and there are plenty of trains to choose from Romania and Hungary.
