Typhoon Rasmussen impact Cebu?

Hi

I am Flying into Cebu end of July and plan to visit surrounding islands for 5/6 nights - I'm struggling to understand if the recent Typhoon has impacted that province?

We are not sure if we should change our travel plans.

huh? where did you get that idea? It never made any landfall in the visayas region. It made landfall in Luzon.

Thank you - I was not sure if it made landfall anywhere else! First time travelling to the region so we are not too familiar with regions!

Kelly, a typhoon like that, even though it did not make any landfall, can and will bring rains and some winds to the Visayas, with different levels or degrees. For example, the rains and winds can be similar for Cebu and for Bohol, as the two are close to each other. If you are looking at north Cebu and south Cebu, including Dumaguete, which is located in another island but very close to the southern tip of Cebu, the weather can be totally different because Cebu, from the north to the farthest end to the south, spans 225 kilometers in a straight line. If you are talking of Boracay which is in Western Visayas, we are talking of a different weather pattern because the distance is around 282 kms in terms of a flight/plane ride, but this time, an east to west route.

Your biggest threat if ever a weather disturbance comes along, is that your travel plans will be disrupted. Even though this particular typhoon you mentioned went through Luzon, it forced the coast guard to stop all shipping schedules in the visayas, and disrupted several flights.

But if you are asking if there were any infrastructure or long term damage, none.

If you would happily travel to Queensland in summer knowing you can get a cyclone, you should be happy travelling to Cebu knowing there might be a typhoon.
