Samal island questions....

Staying at the pearl farm for a week. But really would like to break out of the resort and enjoy some of the island on our own. I understand they are pretty strict and try and keep ya captive and want ya to only enjoy their food, their tours, their activities, etc, etc

Tell me, is it still possible to get out and explore samal island a bit on your own? We'd like to rent a motorbike for the week, drive ourself to the caves and waterfalls, beaches, markets and some other restaurants, and negotiate our own Bianca's for fishing, exploring and snorkeling around the islands around samal.

Anyone with any experience or advise about this situation?

Really look forward to any input whatsoever.

Mahalo, salamat and thank you very much!

@ Dinkyboo

No - they are not so far. You can arrange this at Pearl farm itself. However, do note that there are nearly 50 resorts in Samal garden island (Hof Gorei is not the only one, and there are many others which are equally beautiful, at far lesser costs). Map here - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z2r1H31iK3g/UHUFyNc28zI/AAAAAAAACaY/p_ITsiTTdRM/s1600/map+of+samal.jpg

Of course, it also depends on what you are going for... is it just to relax in one of the cottages? Or to snorkel? Or to dive? Or to relax on the beach (not much of beach here!)

You can find photos of Pearl farm, hof Gorei on my blog here - http://expattraveller.blogspot.com - just go to the "Davao" page.
