Davao is probably more safe than Manila. And Kalibo is very safe.

Actually, no matter where you go, bring your common sense with you. Just like when you are in your home country, take the same precautions as you would.

No jewellery

No dark alley

When stranger is trying to be friendly, say thank you and walk away.

Wallet never in your back pocket

Be aware of your surroundings

Do not ever flash cash in front of stranger.

As for Davao, I have not been there before. Base on what I read, as long as you stayed in the urbanized area, you should be safe. As for Kalibo, I have only been to their airport. So I can't comment.

As what other poster says, there are visitors visited these two places and they make it alive.

Nobody can guarantee your safety always. So just take the usual precautions. You should be fine.

Id be interested to know where all these bad reports come from.

Yes there is crime in Philippines,my country Australia and even your country. I know in KL there are robbers on motor cycles whom do snatch and grab stealing from tourists.

As MH says just be sensible and it is unlikely you will become a victim. Ive been to Philippines many times and never felt threatened or unsafe. The risks would be no more than in your own country.

There are certain places your risk are higher like some of the remote southern parts of the Philippines where extremists are located and kidnappings do and have occurred.

Enjoy your holiday! Filipinos are very hospitable.

I am more afraid to roam the streets of Johor Bahru (Malaysia) and Chicago (U.S.) at night than when I'm in Davao, Kalibo and Manila.

Melbourne also has a bad reputation late at night due to drunken violence.

Bashings use to regularly occur until a police crackdown.

Tommo, tell me about it. I was working in Melbourne 2003-2004 and had to defend myself against a gang of rowdy (racist) drunks in Clayton station on the way home (10PM mind you) from work.

Im not sure why the Philippines is targeted as unsafe when in todays culture crime occurs in every city. Especially alcohol fueled violence.

I reiterate that the Philippines is generally a safe holiday destination.
