Can you? Yes. Would I want to? Never again.

The water is murky, chilly and sometimes infested with jellies. There is absolutely nothing to see but sand, You're better off snorkeling in your bathtub.

If you like to snorkel, I would suggest driving across the isthmus to Portobelo or Isla Grande. (From the Pacific beaches, that's 3 to 3 1/2 hours each way.) The water is warmer, clearer, less wave action and there are actual reefs with fish and critters.
