It is a small town, most of the restaurants and bars(not there are a lot) are across the water on Isla Grande.

If you are looking for a fun city you need to stay in PC. Colon isn't safe, you can't hang there, Portobello is OK during the day but not a place for gringos after dark, at least that is my take.

The little village of La Guayra is right opposite Isla Grande - there is a small "corner" store there for limited supplies - slightly bigger "corner" store in Portobelo (20 minutes away) or a full supermarket in Sabanitas about 50 minutes away...

You will be able to get fresh seafood each day right down at the dock...

The area itself is very rural and relaxing (we have friends with a beach house nearby so have spent a quite a few weekends over this way... Plus I used to help organize a major triathlon that started in La Guayra...) so if you want to get away from the rat race it would be great - don't expect Internet or decent TV reception (unless they have a DirectTV dish)...

As for nightlife - none to speak of... As mentioned - don't bother with Colon - you would need to come back to Panama for a "fun" city... between 2 and 2.5 hours away...
