Where to Stay in Bocas

I am coming to Bocas in early January and was hoping on some insight where to stay. We will be there for 5 days and looking to split the stay between 2 different areas.

We are 3 girls in our 30s and are main goal is a fun atmosphere with good nightlight... (also preferably near the beach). No real budget..

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

For nightlife, bars and restaurant you should be staying on Isla Colon which is the main islands and the other options is Isla Carenero situated in front of Isla Colon (1min boat) with boat "lancha" running at night.

Two problems you should be aware of on Carenero ... one, bring lots of oily insect repellent. The chitras (sand fleas) are miserable there. Two, take a water taxi at night at your own risk. Few of the water taxis have running lights. Your skipper can't see them, can't hear them. In the past, there have been some fatal accidents (that included American tourists) due to boat collisions with water taxis operating without running lights at night.

You can find a lot of Hotel on the website of www.bocas.com as well onhttps://www.airbnb.com.pa/s/Bocas-del-Toro-Province--Panama.

It is more comfortable to stay on the main island isla Colon if you like to enjoy the night life then you do not have to worry about water taxis late at night. maybe even a good idea to rent a bicycle durungyour stay , then you do not have to search for a taxi late at night and at day time you can cycle to the Playa Punch, Playa Bluff.

My wife and I stayed at Island Plantation Bocas. It is away from Bocas Town so it is very peaceful. It is a short ride into town from there. It is in the jungle, but right on the Bluff Beach. The owners there, awesome guys, can steer you in the right direction as far as where to go for fun and thrills! Beautiful place, the people there are awesome. We had such a good time there we have booked our trip back there in March 2016.

When you are in town, get a boat and go across the short distance of water to Aqua Lounge. It is the happening place. It is all very laid back. Don't stress about little things like lights on boats. This is a way of life for the locals! We spent every day at the beach and never had a chitras (also called "no-see-ums")problem. The guys at Island Plantation have cocoanut oil to solve that problem should it arise

Look at Koko resort...you can rent your own cottage over the water....breakfast is included. They are in Saigon - $1 taxi to Bocas town, grocery store a very short walk away, beach also within walking distance.
