Place to Stay in San Jose

Hello All;

My friend and I will be traveling to Bocas the first week in June. Since our flight gets into San Jose CR late Thursday night, we're planning to stay overnight and take the bus to Bocas the next morning.

Since the bus leaves at 6:00AM, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a decent accomodation not too far from the bus terminal in San Jose. Any information would be most appreciated.

The Costa Rica Forum is a better place for this question.

The bus to bus at 6 is actually the bus to Sixaola leaving from the San Carlos Terminal. Decent accommodation is rare in that neighborhood. Since you will be in a taxi anyway. There are nice hotels and a nicer area about 2 kilometers west in the Paseo Colone area. Look into a few and make your choice. From there get a taxi to the bus terminal in the morning. The Sixaola buses used to leave from the Terminal Caribe. Be sure to tell the taxi driver Terminal San Carlos or he might bring you to the old bus station. (watch all your valuables every second on that bus!!! More bags disappear at that the rest stop in Limon than any other bus in Costa Rica)

Once the bus gets to Sixaola, you need to exit costa rica, walk across the bridge. Before you enter Panama you will need to prove you have a ticket leaving Panama. Walk down the stairs to the right and buy a bus ticket at the Kiosk. Then back up the stairs to the Customs and immigration for panama.

2 choices - Negotiate a taxi for the ride to Almirante ($40 is a guess) or

get a combined taxi ( you and others) to Changuinola. get a bus to Almirante, Walk back one block and then turn left to the water. The water taxis are there.
