Santa Fe is very undeveloped and very limited in option of places to stay - in my mind this will be the next "hot spot" for development once the economy gets back on track (I know some land for sale up there - he said with a sly look on his face!!!!!)

Boquete is much more developed - but having said that it's still not overun and still very much has a small town feeling. I've been up here for the past 3 months pretty much full time (buying a small hotel) and I almost feel like a local ! ! !

Santa Fe would be cheaper mainly because there's not much in the way of tourist traffic to drive the prices up - although Boquete is still pretty cheap.

Activity-wise there's a lot more infractructure in and around Boquete.

I have to defer to Andrew regarding Santa Fe. However, Boquete is a small town with a lot to do. Rafting, zip line, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, just to name a few. You can also spend $10.00 a night or $400 a night; $2.00 for a complete plate of hot food, or $30 for a gourmet dinner.
