Help with planning for Swakopmund. Is 1 night enough?

Hi,

I'm planning a 3 week trip in Namibia and Botswana.

I want to start my trip in Windhoek and spending a couple of nights in Sesriem to visit the Namib desert. I see that most of the tours and travellers choose Swakopmund for a couple of nights, but we are not very interested in doing any activities there, but definetely would like to see the seals in Cape Cross.

My question is: Is one night in Swakopmund enough? (Considering we will be spending the previous night in Sesriem). After Swakopmund we want to go to Etosha, but I guess we should spend at least a night somewhere in the middle. Any ideas?

So in short the route would be:

Day 1: Windhoek

Day 2: Sesriem

Day 3: Sesriem

Day 4: Swakopmund

Day 5: Cape Cross and sleeping in ___?_____

Day 6: Etosha (and the rest of the trip)

Thanks!

We are a familiy of 4 adults wanting to camp in Swakop vecinity for 2-3 days in June. Where are the best options in terms of facilities and and central to the Walvis, Henties area?

Hi Karen,

Welcome to Tripadvisor. I can't help with camp-sites, but just saying that you will probably do better if you create your own thread rather than use someone else's to ask your question.

It's also more polite, and it means the OP (Original Poster, oconeeNY) doesn't get pestered by automatic emails saying there's been new responses.

Have a great trip

Regarding the trip from Swakopmund to Etosha, which I think no one has addressed: Don't attempt it in one day. Where you overnight depends upon which entrance you are using. If you have enough time (a few days) for Etosha, I would recommend the Galton Gate entrance at the western end, only recently opened to individual visitors. You must, however, book at least one night at Dolomite Lodge, inside that entrance, to be admitted there.

If you do that, spend the intervening night following Swakopmund at Twyfelfontein Lodge, which will afford you the opportunity to see some of Africa's most impressive rock engravings. We also participated in a stargazing excursion, talking advantage of dark skies hundred of miles from any source of light or air pollution.

sammax - when looking at the list of topics on the forum, click on the yellow "Ask a Question" button and post your question. That starts a thread if people respond to it.
