World Leisure Holidays - Disaster Tour Agents Be Warned

We booked our dream family holiday to Sugar Beach in January 2011 through a Discovery Vitality Affliated Partner, World Leisure Holidays. After much research and the high recommendations from our family and friends and most importantly due to the Kids Club at Sugar Beach which caters for 2 year olds, we had decided on this resort.

The cost of the 7 nights stay for our family of 4 during the October holidays, totalled R65000 . We paid a deposit and paid for our flights in full in May 2011. Today we received an email, not even a phone call, notifying us that due to a group booking which had expanded in numbers, we would have to move to another hotel and if we were not satisfied with that option, our money would be refunded. The 'expanding' group needed our family room which we had booked in January 2011. The alterntive hotel is unfinished at present which means for the same amount of money, we would get to experience contractors and the likes on our dream holiday. Further to this there is no Kids Club for 2 year olds which is the main reason for our first choice of Sugar Beach. The second hotel offered as a substitute is a 4 star for the same price as the 5 star Sugar Beach. No compassion or compensation was shown or offered to us. Our dream holdiay is now a nightmare.

Beware of World Leisure Holidays as a Tour Operator as they do not put their clients needs first and it seems that if 6 months down the line, a better offer comes along, you will be left in the lurch!

Which hotel do they want to move you to?

Sorry to hear of your problems.

Not heard of the tour operator, are they SA based?

The hotel they want us to move to is Long Beach or La Pirogue. We understand that Long Beach is also 5 star but it does not offer the Kids Club for 2 year olds. We have a 2 year old toddler and a 12 year old and the Kids Club was vital when choosing our resort. La Pirogue has a kids club for 4 year olds only. Is there anything you can recommend on such short notice?

Long Beach is brand new, just opened a month or so and is getting excellent reviews. Its on the east coast at Belle Mare on a lovely stretch of beach.

However as you say its a kids club for your two year old thats the problem.

La Pirogue is next door to Sugar Beach and is as you say 4* but you get to use facilities with SB as its part of Sun Resorts. Maybe you could use the SB kids club if you stayed at LP and explained your circumstances?

Beachcomber are very family orientated. They have good hotels dotted around the island. Take a look at their website.

You could also look at Sun Resort's Le Touessrok on the east coast which is their flagship hotel.

They have put you in a difficult situation and I would be furious with your agent.

In October you can stay anywhere on the island weather wise, its just that the west and north west/north are closer to shops etc whereas there's very little to do outside the hotels on the east and south.

Let us know what they offer you. If they offer 4* then bargain for extras or a price reduction if you have already paid.

Best wishes,

Bronia :-)
