Hi Diane,

See this website that skymap so kindly provided us with and click on to Mauritius on the left side of the menu:

word-weather-travellers-guide.com

Note that the west and north/west coasts will be better in Mauritian winter and avoid January to March if possible, as its peak cyclone time and also the hottest rainiest most humid months.Problem with Mauritius is that the hottest months are the wettest.

Legends at Grand Gaube to the north east is a good hotel for couples though its beach is mad made.

See www.naiade.com

Best beaches are at Flic en Flac to the west, Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy to the north west and Belle Mare to the east. Blue Bay in the south is great for snorkelling as its set in a national marine park.

One good hotel there is The Shandrani:

See www.beachcomber-hotels.com

They have hotels in the north and nort west too.

West look at www.maradiva.com

Beautiful villa only hotel with individual plunge pools. We just visited there and its absolutely beautiful.

Also the next door Sands Resort is a lovely hotel in a stunning location with views over Le Morne and Tamarin Bay.I just stayed there the other week and loved it. Small but has everything you need. Lovely large rooms and bathrooms, and extremely well run.

Hilton on the same beach. We visited here too and

can recommend it. More a family hotel than Sands or Maradiva though. www.mauritius.hilton.com Sugar Beach and La Pirogue are sister hotels, the former recently upgraded following extensive renovations to 5* though LP is 4* and looing a bit tired. We also visited here a few weeks ago and its well spread out and quite lively, again more family orientated. www.sugarbeachresort.com

Finally try Sofitel, part of the French Accor group:

www.sofitel.com

Worth looking at on the east coast are:

Belle Mare Plage and Le Prince Maurice, part of the same group:

www.princemaurice.com

Finally take a look at The Heritage at Bel Ombre on the south coast. A bit isolated but good spa and golf.

www.veranda-resorts.com

Plenty more hotels to look at. Mauritius is renowned for the luxury end of the market, and even the 3* hotels are lovely!

You do need to set a budget. Prices were coming down recently but sadly seem to have risen for next year, possibly due to the World Cup in South Africa as I understand they will get more visitors.

Cheers,

Bronia :)
