Medhufushai Resort, Meemu Atoll travel plans...

Hiya,

We're a party of two heading to Medhufushai Island Resort and are looking into travel plans! Seems like Sri Lankan Airlines is the most convenient but I've heard horror stories and was wondering if anyone can share their experience!

We are flying out of London and our other option is Qatar airlines so we're perplexed!

Also would love any revues of Medhufushai Island Resort, especially if you've used a travel website before!!!

We're both avid surfers, one from Hawaii, and sailors so we're looking to do every watersport possible!!! Can't wait!

Hi there. Our review of Medhufushi was published in December. It's reasonably comprehensive, but if you would like to know any more, please let me know. We loved Medhu and if you dive, their dive centre is one of the best run dive centres we've used and the sites are fantastic. I don't think there's any surfing in the Maldives ....lack of surf!

We almost always use Sri Lankan and have never had any problems with them. If you are travelling out at the weekend it's good because you can get a direct flight. Alternatively, if you want a slightly longer journey, but with a break in between, Emirates is perhaps easier than Qatar as you can get a day flight back on some days of the week. Unless they have changed their schedules, Qatar is often an night flight out of Male which is not terribly convenient as it means you often leave your island early (because of the daylight only seaplane flights) and then have to hang around at Male.

Happy reading!

Personally I like Emirates for flying as they fly to Male every day ... have flown with Sri Lankan (they usually fly direct to Male but stop at Columbo in Sri Lanka on the return journey) and they were as good as Emirates (via Dubai) except for the entertainment system. I've also flown Qatar(via Doha) and they were good also.

btw..... surfing is best at Chaaya Dhonveli but their beach isn't the best, but beware that you need to book with specialist agents to get on the reef and booking with Chaaya Dhonveli resort doesn't always mean you can use the surf. You have to go out on a boat to access it and not from beach I believe.

I will agree with Activegirl, Emirates is the best choice.

Medhufushi has all kind of water sports, even Kitesurfing and a fantastic Spa if you are fun.

Have a great holidays

Hi Aaron

Just a quick note on Sri Lankan. They used to always fly via Colombo on the return, but there are now several direct flights back. I think it's three days a week- Friday/Saturday and Sunday - but you should check on their website.
