overwhelmed with options

Hi,

i am looking to stay in the Maldives for 7-8 days in late May.

This will be the first time that my wife and i are going and like most are overwhelmed by the options available.

So its such a diffucult choice when they all look great yet you have no idea.

Our interest is for the following

- is this a good time to go ( weather )

- 4.5 to 5 Star

- more to relax, swim and enjoy the beauty of the island as opposed to snorkellng or diving.

- room rate about 450-650 US per night

- beach front or full ocean views prefereably. I gather over the water accommodation would be signifcantly more expensive.

- great beach/beaches

- preferably say a few reastaurant options- i.e, greater than 2 options

- preferably can get their by speedboat as opposed to sea plane

- food and bar facilities to be very good

- away from the surrounds of Male

- more for couples as opposed to families

- accommodation with all meals included if possible, though not fussed.

As a whole a resort that can blow us away for first timers within my above stated room per night budget, if possible.

I appreciate your feedback

The closest that I can think of to your requirements is Bandos.

Hi May is generally low season and you may need a little luck in terms of the weather. There will be storms at stages and other days could be perfectly fine. The advantage is that rates are normally much lower and hence you may get a good rate at Baros which is a boat trip and more for couples within the budget you are looking for. You will see Male in the distance at night. They have a half board meal plan is required.

Alternatively, try Kandooma, Kurumathi or Anantara as alternatives with boat transfers and various meal plans.

Thanks

Bruce and Jason,

Thank you both for your feedback and your thoughts. i really appreciate it.

what are your thoughts of baros as a choice.

I will also look at the other suggestions you have both recommended.

Between Kandooma. Kurumathi, Anantara and Bandos whcih one in your opinion is the best.

Thanks again

Traditionally, May was known as change over time between the 2 monsoons so could be more unsettled, stormy, wet & windy. However it is difficult to predict the weather and it can differ from island to island. Try to go for as long as possible in wet season just in case.....

I don't think anyone will be able to answer you with any certainty as the weather seems more changeable now year on year and can change literally from island to island in the same atoll. In either month you could have 8 days wall to wall sunshine, or you could be really unlucky and have 8 days rain. The best you can anticipate during the wet season is a mixture of both and decide if this would really spoil the limited time you have or perhaps consider if you can extend your stay to counter this as lynphd suggested

Bandos is very much geared towards families, there even is a playground (we visited briefly as hubby had to see doctor for ear infection), and the main restaurant reminded us of a canteen - not in a good way - so might not be what you're after.

Baros is the opposite type of island ...

I agree with Karla, Bandos is a family island and I wouldn't choose it unless you have kids. Have you had a look at a specialist Maldives agent, eg Maldives Direct and Purely Maldives? They have detailed info on almost all the islands and though based in the UK, have a lot of international clients
