How to get to Ithaa restaurant (Rangali) from the W Maldives

We are planning to go to the W Maldives in December for 3 or 4 nights and then go to Phuket for New Years. Would like to take full advantage while in Maldives and visit the underwater restaurant. How exactly would one get from the W to Ithaa at Rangali Island? Im sure the answer is sea plane but is there a boat option as well? How long would it take to get there and how much would it cost? Trying to figure if we could go for a quick lunch of if this is something that would take up a whole day.

you cannot just drop in "for a quick lunch" ... you will have to make arrangements with both resorts .. with any luck Kanthony will see this post and answer it .. she works at rangali and knows all the ins and outs.

you are definitely looking at a trip that requires several hours between departing and returning to W.

if K doesn't notice this post - i suggest a phonecall or email to rangali.

Your only option is a sea plane ride from Male to Rangali (you can't easily take a seaplane or boat from the W to Rangali). That will add hundreds of dollars to your costs as well as the better part of two days getting to and from your lunch.

I think even if you could do this in a day with first flight out to male and last flight back from male to w, ( you will probably have to go via male as Bruce says as opposed to trying to charter a plane just to take you personally between isiands), I think the price will be about 1 k all in for you both to fly to male, out to rangali, back to male and back to w, and the odds are it could take two days depending on the sea plane fight schedule.

Bare in mind that sea plane schedules are done the night before, so you would struggle to know what was feasible in advance in terms of timing, but you would have to book and pay.

Probably it's better just to stay at the Conrad than try to fly there for lunch and back, as otherwise, it's a very expensive and time consuming activity. This is the reason this is not really an activity people undertake unfortunately,

The W hotel is about 45 minutes by speedboat from Conrad Maldives, so just ask the W to make a reservation for you.

We'd recommend booking lunch because that way you get here and leave in the daylight but if W are happy running a speedboat at night in the dark then dinner's fine too.

Not sure if W have this option, but if they have a yacht or similar you could rent it for an overnight cruise and dock at Conrad for dinner. At this time of year we have a lot of yachts at the resort doing exactly this.

Thank you Kanthony. Will call the W and ask about the speed boat option. The random sea plane schedule doesnt seem like the best option when we only have a 3-4 night stay. If it comes down to it, we'll just have to choose between staying at the Conrad or the W. Thank you everyone for your responses!

P.S. Is there anywhere i could go to see the sea plane schedules at least for the day we arrive? Would like to coordinate our flights arrival in time with a seaplane.

Hi, the boat option sounds excellent and a real result this is possible.

Re flights,,,it works the other way around, this I am sure of. Book your international flight, make sure you don't land past 3pm to be safe, and the sea plane schedule is worked the night before, based on the international flight arrival times, and how many guests, for which resorts, are arriving.

You will be taken to the sea plane terminal, and then told your flight time. usually you have to ask, they just sit you down basically,

You may have. A wait if the sea plane is waiting for guests to arrive off of another international flight that arrives after yours,. Alternatively, they may have to wait for you, however it's a pleasant wait, sitting at the waters edge, watching the planes take off and land.

If the weather is bad, they cant take off and you end up on a boat if that's

feasible, but I would not worry about that, its their job to get you there. Moat people prefer an early morning arrival to give themselves the biggest window of opportunity to catch a flight.

If you're travelling to either W or Conrad they will pick you up from outside the arrivals terminal at the airport, take your luggage for you and bring you to a private lounge to wait for your seaplane.

The Conrad lounge is huge, has a spa, full buffet (basically it's like a first class lounge in an airport) balcony overlooking the seaplane harbour etc.

There is no seaplane schedule at all. Every day the seaplane companies work out their schedule for the following day based on how many resorts have guests arriving and leaving and which international flights need to be coordinated with. How they do this is beyond me - sounds ilke the hardest job in the Maldives because every single day the numbers are different.
