budget holiday at kuching

plan to kuching disember 2007.. group of 21 person (13 adult & 8 children).. i dont want to stay at hotel but at a budget hostel / lodge / guesthouse..

singgahsana lodge seem very pricey.. another choice are borneo bed & breakfast, pinnacle, green mountain or carpenter guesthouse.. any recommend which one is the best & cheapest..with attach bathroom..breakfast..nearest main bazaar / waterfront..

is there any mamak or malay restaurant near that area..along jalan carpenter or at india street..

plan to go serikin on sunday.. is there any minivan to Serikin.. where can get it.. how much do they charge per van per head..

Carpenter Guesthouse is very clean, friendly, convenient for makan, 5 min. walk to waterfront and within walking distance to visit interest places like Sarawak Museum, Handicraft museum, tourism info centre, Main Bazaar, India Street, Malay Mosque, Chinese Museum, Tuo Pek Ko Temple, Clock Tower, Astana, Sournier shops, Top Spot Seafood court centre etcs. Rate @ RM28.75/dorm ( 6 single beds in a room) or RM115/room with 2 queen beds or 1 queen bed & l double decker with nos. of share bathroom outside the room (Dry & wet bathroom separately) & incl. b/fast. It near China town. Makan for muslim & Malay is not a problem.

Journey fr. airport to Carpenter guesthouse about 20 min. with RM17.60/cab. Remember to get the free Kuching map at the airport (tourism info centre).

Walking along the waterfront 5-10 min., u can see hotels like Harbour View, Hilton, Crown Plaza, Holiday Inn. Opposite the Holiday Inn hotel, there is Cat status. U may take a shuttle at Holiday Inn @ RM10/adult , RM5/child per way to visit Cultural Village (journey about 40 minutes). If u buy Cultural Village entrance ticket at Holiday Inn , it cost RM50/adult, RM25/child (I knew Holiday Inn at Santubong sells C.V tickets but not sure at H.Inn Kuching, pls. check). Entrance tickets at C.V at RM60/adult, RM30/child. Take about 2 hours to visit all diff. type of houses & 45 min. cultural show (must see) either at 11 am or 4 pm. C.V will close at 5pm.

Take dinner at Top Spot Seafood court (behind Parkson - at Crown Plaza). It is halal & cheap.
