PADI certification in July/August - weather and cost

Hi,

We are looking into getting PADI dive certified and are deciding between Borneo (kota Kinabalu) and Phillipines, our decision will be based on weather (given it is monsoon/typhoon season) and the cost.

Can anyone advise on diving around these months re weather, and any other comments

thanks

Mark

I think that it is wetter in the Philippines than in KK at that time of year.

The diving there in the Philippines is likely to be alot better than in KK. February to July would seem to be the best time to visit the Philippines.

The very best diving of all in malaysia and some of the best in the world is off the islands surrounding SIpadan on the other side of Borneo, particularly Mabul . You will not be able to fly for 24 hours after your last dive, and the OW course will last 4 days. We stayed in Scba Junkie which we loved.

Dumaguete , and Liquid Live in particular is an excellent place to do your OW in the Philippines , its a lovely friendly dive centre with excellent great value beach cottages and amazing food.
