where to go for two weeks...?!?!?!

Has anyone been to Malaysia? If so would you recomend Malaysia or Thailand? I am thinking of going to Sabah for a week or two, but am not sure how long to spend there...is 2 weeks too much time?

Is there a better place to go? We would like to go to some chilled out beaches, dive, and play it by ear. The thing that attracts us to Sabah is the Orangatan centre, but we are up for visiting anywhere in Malaysia or Thailand.

Any help appreciated!

There is a lot to see in Sabah, so 2 weeks would be a good amount of time.

The best place to see the Orang Utans would be in Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. However, if you wish to see them in the wild you will need to spend some days on either the Kinabatangan River (Sukau) or in Danum Valley.

As this is wildlife, there are no guarantees that you will see a wild Orang Utan, which is why you go to Sepilok first - then you will at least be able to see some semi-demesticated Orang Utans.

If you are interested in Proboscis Monkeys, Then Sukua is the place to visit.

This would take 4-5 days to cover at least. If you want to see the Sea Turtle at Selingan Island, then add at least another day and book well in advance.

If you are interested in cultures then a trip to Kudat is a great way to see the Rungus culture. Stay at a long house while there and get a really good taste of their lifestyle. (Both traditional and modernised Long Houses are available).

Other sites to see in Sabah include Mt Kinabalu Nation Park. This includes a large number of plants - orchids, pitcher plants and the like. Not to mention a huge mountain.

If you feel more like relaxing, then you continue on to Poring Hotspring and relax in the pools there.

There is also a treetop canopy walk and butterfly park in the area.

There are also lots of beaches in Sabah to relax on.

As you are into diving/snorkling there are world renound sites; such as Sipidan to visit.

For a casual snorkle, the islands of Kota Kinabalu are close and reasonable.

I hope that this gives you some ideas.

Check with your travel agent for tour packages, as sometimes these can be cheeper to book before hand, especially if booking several different tours together.

i would suggest you to fly to kuala lumpur and take a flight to east coast of peninsula malaysia. there are hundreds of beautiful islands and fantastic for diving (tioman, redang, pehentian to name a few), . the beach are stunning and perfect place to chill out. the only thing is the booze is quite expensive. try tioman island. is nominated as ten most beautiful island. me and family preferred perhentian island and we are going there again next june. check air asia.com for cheap domestic flight and mari mari.com for the best hotel bargain.
