Taman Gelora - how are the tennis courts there?

We'll be in Kuantan at the end of December. Hoping to have a hit on the tennis courts while there and noticed there are some tennis courts in Taman Gelora. Are they in reasonable condition? Are they available for public use? How is this arranged - what, if any charges?

Are they grasscourts, hardcourts or clay? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I did see people using the courts but they were mainly school children/high school, and think they were clay. However enthough I did not use those ones dont expect them to be in top notch condition. Dont know where you are staying but there are also courts at the Hyatt near the beach, ok looked after, you could maybe pay to use them as a non-hotel guest.

It does get very hot and humid near Taman Gelora (used to do at least 3 miles walking of a morning at 7am as it got to much after that) even with a rare breeze off the sea it was a bit like wading through treacle, so be prepared. Most people use the facilitys early morning or late afternoon. and the palce is mostly deserted in the middle for obvious reasons!

And also Dec is monsoon season so some parts do get flooded. And just a note the park does have a lot of mozzies due to the lakes so cover up and spray well

Thanks very much for the info. I did use the courts at the Hyatt some years ago but back then they were in pretty bad shape, not even good enough for kids' inter-club here (they charged for it and it was run as a separate health/fitness club/facility independent of the hotel, which was a bit weird). They may have resurfaced the courts since. Have also thought about staying at the Hyatt again. Will keep your comments and advice in mind. Have a great Xmas and New Year.

Just asked my other half and they also think it was some kind of sports school that used the courts. Anyway no harm in asking whilst your in Kuantan.

As for the Hyatt, well looking at the latest reviews not much has changed....still in need of a good shake up.

Thanks for the Christmas Greeting, and same back to you and your family and happy travels in 2014!
