Kuala Gandar Elephant Sanctuary

Not many travellers are away right about an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur (passing Genting Highland) is one of the gem in Malaysia which housed about 20 elephant that were transfer from other areas or are going through rehabilitation.

The sanctuary role is to provide a new lease of live to those elephant and be released into the wild when they are ready.

The sactuary open to public from 1-6pm, but be there early to get the coupon if you intent to ride or bath together with those elephant.

Admission is either free or at minimum charge (been there sometimes ago, forgotten)

Next to the elephant sanctuary is a privately own deer farm coupled with various other animal. Small fees to pay for entrance.

Both spots are just an hour drive away from Kuala Lumpur, and its smack between the town of Jerantutu, Mentakab and termeloh.

And make sure you have time to taste those river fishes that are widely available in most of restaurant there !!

We stayed at Mentakab at a Motel near by Bukit Bendera.

Do we need to contact MTC travel agent in KL to book bus trip out to Elephant sanctuary? Is it necessary to book now for doing it in July?

Still a long way to July and more over you will not be able to lock in the price..

2 weeks notice should be just nice.

Cheers

Travelling to KGES is easy, just hire a cab or car from your hotel or airport and be there by noon, as the activity only start after lunch. If hire a cab, ask the driver to wait for you till you are done.

We just hired a private car from the hotel the day before. Found it easier than a bus trip and we were able to do what we wanted. Don't miss the sun bears near the elephant sanctuary. A private driver should know about this and you're not stuck on a bus and locked into their timetable
