Rasah Camp

I would really appreciate some "local knowledge" from someone in the Seremban area.

Does Rasah Camp still exist and if so can you explain to me where it is please? I was at Rasah 1967 - 1969 - a lifetime ago - but I have never forgotten it and have fond memories of it and Seremban itself.

The area is so built up now I am unable to find it.

Thank you.

We were there late 58 to late 61. And the pool was brand new.

It looks like it is still in use.... Fantastic really after Over 50 years!!

We used to spend all our spare time in there .

Look forward to seeing it again soon .

I got married at St Matthews church in the camp in 1965. My wife and I have just come back (today!) from Seremban after trying to visit but couldn't get access to the camp without permission from the brigade HQ! In spite of that it was great to see the old place again - I was at Paroi camp (now Senawang) but spent lot of time in the swimming pool in Rasah!

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Hi George , thanks for that.I have been trying to get access but have not got it yet !

Would you know which beach the army lads used at Port Dickson? If I remember rightly it was one of the first you came to as you came in from Seremban.

Cheers Phil.

Sorry for late post, I've only just seen your post.

Hello .When I was a Rasah Camp in 1956/7 we used to have a truck to Port Dickson most weekends . The café on the beach at Port Dickson where we went to,.was Long Beach Café. Does this help?

Sorry Phil, we never went to. P Dickson. The regiment had just arrived from a year in Aden and we enjoyed the swimming pool more than the beach!

Good luck, hope you get the permission.

Hi Phil,

Sorry I've not been communicating (long story) but I have been following the posts.

We used to go to a beach at PD for the weekend regularly. It was quite a few miles south on the coast road. It was a small cove with a headland going out to the south. There was a resident lizard at the top of the beach. It was a bit alarming to start with but we both learned to put up with each other! ;-) It was quite large and we referred to it as the iguana, but I don't think it was.

It must be getting near to time for your journey. I do hope you get permission to tour Rasah and find answers to all your questions. I'm quite envious.

Have a good trip. I look forward to your posts.

Robin

PS Made enquiries about the medal but apparently it is for those serving in the emergency only ie before 1960 - which, unfortunately, I don't qualify for.

Hi Robin,

I'm hoping to get permission,I've so many memories of the camp!

I've made enquiries about the medal and you would qualify for it.

Anyone who served anytime between 1957 and 1966 would qualify.

I have a contact for you.
