mangrove tour

We'll be off to Langkawi in 2 days' time. Can't decide whether to book the mangrove tour with Datai or Four Seasons. From the activity list they sent us, these tours seem different. Does anyone know if there's a difference in theri itineraries? Thanks.

maria,

These tours are all more or less the same, the weather might have a slight affect, if it rains a little, could change route, also the other guests on the tour, they might make it a little easier if someone is struggling a little. You don't nrrd to be fit for this most of the time you'll be in a boat, but at some stages you can get out and walk around. Bring some mozzie repellant.

Don't book through the resorts, go down the road or ask four seasons to drop you off at Barn Thai. Ask for Mr Yusef, he will arrange it for you at 160RM per person for the day, that includes pick up and drop off at your resort, plus lunch at the Barn Thai itself.

You can book elsewhere but prices will be from 180RM upwards for the same tour.

Mangroves, limestone caves, bat colony, eagle feeding all along the Sungai Kilim.

Please don't forget to try the Cable Car, the views are amazing across all the islands. If it is very clear you can see all the way to Thailand. 15RM per adult.

If you want a really interesting mangrove tour you should go with a good guide.

Two of the best on the island are Irshad who is based at the Datai and Dev who can be contacted through Crystal Yacht Holidays. Both these guys have been mentioned in previous posts. More info can be found on www.malaysia-wildlife.com. We have been on trips with both and can thoroughly recommend them.

As Robelyn says they all cover a similar route, but with one of the naturalists the tour will probably cost more.

For a really close up view of the mangroves try a kayak trip with Dev (also mentioned in another post).
