Cruise stop for 1 day, what to do?

Hi, have read some reviews, can I ask for some more info.

Would like to do cable car and see island. If we get taxi from port will it wait at cable , then take us around the island? Is it cheap to do this or do we need to get a taxi before and after cable car. How much are taxi costs and cable car? Thanks

Norfolk.

Hi

Cable car is well worth it & taxi from Awana will cost around RM30 & the cost of a trip up to the top of Mat Cinchang is RM30 per person.

Please note that the cable car is closed on 13th March.

No need to ask the taxi to wait as there are plenty of taxis available.

A 4 hour tour of the island will cost RM100

Have fun

Thank you very much Mick!

We do not know how long we have in port yet. Hopefully a whole day but working on min half a day. If more we can then ask taxi to take us around for a few hours. Oh also is it fixed price or do he have to haggle?

Thanks again

Hi

Taxi prices are fixed prices from A to B so there is no need to haggle and you will find it much, much cheaper than taking taxis in the UK!!!

Just found out we have only 6 hrs in Langkawi :(. There are 5 adults in our group, so few more questions...

Is it easy to get a taxi for 5 people? Is the cost of taxi from port to cable car RM 30 each, or is that a journey price? Could we fit in tour of island? Would this be RM100 each? And if tour not do-able what else do you suggest with our limited time?

Many thanks.

Hi

As you only have 6 hours, you could take a 4 hour tour of the island by taxi. As there are 5 of you, you will have to take one of the mini bus taxis. The price is not per person but a flat rate for the journey.

You could visit the cable car in this time also but it would depend on the length of the queues as to how much time this will take. You could also stop off somewhere for a spot of lunch, but as you are on a cruise, no doubt you will have eaten enough!!

Enjoy

prices quoted above are for up to 4 persons in a standard taxi. a larger vehicle for 5 people adds 50% to the cost. whatever you decide, i have heard reports that the 'tour' arranged through the cruise company consisted of being bussed to underwaterworld... not a very enlightening view of what langkawi has to offer, in my opinion.

for such a brief visit, lesley's suggestion of a four-hour taxi trip is probably the best option, at rm150. your 4 hours would include the driver's waiting time at the cable car, obviously.

here is a site listing the planned maintenance closures of the cable car

Just a tip with the cable car. We arrived at lunchtime and there was a huge line. We were told that it would be over an hour waiting in the line and after looking at all the people waiting I believed that to be correct. When we questioned the wait we were told that if we paid an extra fee we would get priority and go straight through. I think it was about AU$20 extra each. We did this and a lot of non Malaysian tourists did as well. The price was still a bargain price to see the fantastic view from the top! The other option would be to get there when it opens if you can and before people start to line up which isn't always possible!
