Wildlife around the Berjaya

Hi, just a small question, hope someone can help. We will be staying in one of the rainforest chalets at the Berjaya, and are excited to see some wildlife, small or large. We are bringing binoculars in hope to do some bird watching...

What kind of wildlife can we expect to see the most? Something interesting to look for? Anything to stay away from (we already know the macaques)?

Thank You!

Hi

In and around the Berjaya you will see lots of wildlife such as the macaques, dusky leaf monkeys, squirrels, colugos, monitor lizards, geckos, sun skinks, hornbills, lots of different types of birds and if you are lucky you may see ratufas.

Berjaya also run a nature walk which is free for the guests. The walk is with Dev's Adventures and it is around the hotel grounds which are very extensive. Book for one of these walks - you will be amazed.

there are two different walks provided for hotel guests, free of charge. these walks can act as an introduction to the 'natives'. the morning walk covers information about the flora of the resort, and you may be lucky enough to see some birds and animals. the evening walk concentrates on the nocturnal species, you will almost certainly see flying lemurs [colugos] and bats, and may catch sight of the two types of flying squirrel. however - wildlife is just that - wild - and does not always cooperate! please book for your walks as soon as you arrive - they fill up very quickly.

in each chalet, you should find a guide to the most common birds and animals of the resort. if you are keen birdwatchers and want a very good bird book for the region, i can recommend the New Holland Guide to Birds of South-East Asia by craig robson.

dev's adventure tours, who provide the guides for the berjaya's nature walks, can arrange bird watching trips taking in a variety of habitats from coastal marsh to montaine, and run nature-centred tours into the mangrove. here is their website.

Hi

The Berjaya is actually teeming with wildlife. You do not really have to go searching for it, it is all around you. Remember - DO NOT feed the monkeys!!! Some people do and this causes the monkeys to associate people with food and they then become a nuisance and have to be dealt with appropriately.

Enjoy your holiday
