Budget stay for 5 nights

Dear experts,

Me and a friend (both students) will be staying on Langkawi for 5 nights coming mid June. We are looking for budget accommodation (max. 150 RM for a room) that is clean and not to crowded.

I have been searching for 2 hours and find the following hotels interesting: Zackry, AB motel, Pondok Keladi, Malibest, Green village, Casa Fina. Any recommendations? Beach in front would be nice but not necessary.

Is it easy to arrange trips with other hotels if your own does not organise them?

Kind regards

Hi

All the places you mention are nice little budget places. If you do go for Malibest try to get one of the tree top chalets. A bit more expensive but they are right on the beach and built in the trees.

You can book different trips at many places along the strip in Pantai Cenang but please try to chose one which is eco-friendly and does not feed the eagles or the monkeys.

None of the budget hotels organise their own tours but all of them should have agents dying to get your business.

Almost all the budget hotels you mentioned are pretty much the same. Their standards are not consistent, which is why the reviews are so varied. The only one that is very different is Pondok Keladi. It is far from the beach and you get a village experience rather than a beach resort experience. But the rooms are really nice for the price and the surrounding premises are very serene.

@ manish;

though it is always nice to hear a new voice, is it really helpful to offer opinions on all these different hotels when you spent 3 nights in the island, at the taj rebak?

or did you spend the whole 3 days looking at every other hotel in the island?

lesley has spent many months in the island, as have mick and i. we DO spend a few days of each trip looking at hotels and other sorts of accommodation, usually for trip advisor members. we introduce ourselves to the staff/owners, and ask to see rooms. we ask lots of questions, and often try the food outlets etc., so that we know what we are talking about. we are met with kindness and courtesy wherever we go.

i make no bones about it; my favourite resort for my own vacation is the berjaya, but i do like to know what the other places are like.

as students on a limited budget; most of the places you list would suit you. i have some observations;

pondok keladi is a fair walk from any food/beverage outlets, along a quiet track off the main road from cenang to kuah. there is a communal kitchen where food and hot drinks can be prepared if you wish. a lot would depend on the particular groups there with you, but it seems to be a 'community spirit' type of place. great if that is what you want. you will, in my opinion, need transport.

casa fina is brand-new, and thus very clean. the rooms are quite large and nicely equipped; the website pictures are acurate, so no surprises. from what we saw, it would have the potential to become a 'party place', depending on the mix of guests. it is very close to places for food/drinks at all times from dawn to midnight.

zackrys i know nothing about.

malibest is right on the beach and has some interesting tree houses. the location is good.

ab is split by the main road. some rooms are beach side, others are not. the location is central to bars/restaurants. clean and basic.

along the strip of p.cenang there are numerous small tour operators from whom you may book trips. may i suggest that you visit 'dev's adventure tours' which is next to underwater world on the second floor? well worth considering for any nature-based tours, this firm is operated on ethical and sustainable principals with proper regard for the environment and the people of langkawi.

hope this helps.

@ pam

For your information pam,i do have large network of friends who had been to langkawi on their honeymoons/family and they have been to many different hotels and resorts at langkawi.As a travel passionate,i use to take all the openions they have about different properties.For Indians, langkawi is most accessable international beach destination.

Secondly i have no interest in one or more properties.

Thirdly i need no competition with you.I have my own openion and right to write.

you miss my point. i feel i have adequately illustrated it in my reply [#6]. give the op more detail than they aleady have, in order to help them make an informed choice.

i am well aware of the number of visitors from the indian subcontinent, having devoted hours of painstaking research to help many make THEIR informed choices.

the sort of question where YOUR specialised knowledge could prove useful is about indian vegetarian food, for instance. we are slowly building our knowledge of this subject with help from our indian friends, but additional answers would be helpful.

helpful information is welcome; sadly, a bald statement such as your answer [#4] is not. in my opinion, of course.

Thank you all very much for your recommendations. We finally booked a beach front room at Malibest.
